GLASS MELTING BURNERS-SUN are patented non-water-cooled oxy-fuel burners designed by Air Liquide for larger glass tanks.Through this innovative system, fuel and oxygen are introduced into the furnace through a unique configuration of largely separated injectors, which produces a luminous flat and broad flame.
GLASS MELTING BURNERS-SUN leverage a unique and innovative design that you won’t find with traditional burners. Fuel and oxygen are injected outside the blocks so they can be diluted with the furnace gases before they mix and burn. The partial and smooth combustion of the diluted fuel with oxygen flows helps the thermal decomposition of the fuel, and formation of carbon particles that are highly radiant. The peak temperature of the flame is lower and reduces NOx emissions by up to 10 times less than intensive combustion.

Two symmetrical refractory burner blocks, inserted in the furnace wall. No additional support of the burner is required
Four metallic bodies attached to the burner blocks which ensure the oxygen distribution
Two fuel injection systems
In each part of refractory blocks, there are three outlet holes.
One for the injection of both fuel and primary oxygen flows
One for the injection of secondary oxygen flow
One for the injection of tertiary oxygen flow
Varying the repartition of oxygen between secondary and tertiary flows significantly changes flame characteristics. The flame development can have longer or shorter distance and a wider or narrower range to perfectly cover the glass batch (even for the larger furnaces) and prevents flames interference.
The repartition between secondary and tertiary flows can be controlled either by different piping or by a single-stroke adjustment of oxygen distribution beetween 4 possible staging levels.

GLASS MELTING BURNERS-FC are patented non-water-cooled oxy-fuel burners designed for continuous melting furnaces.
Through this innovative system, fuel and oxygen are introduced into the furnace through a unique configuration of separate injectors, which produces a luminous flat and broad flame.
Oxygen is injected at lower velocity from two injectors located at the top of the burner block. This directs the oxygen flow towards the jets of fuel located in the bottom of the block. Fuel and oxygen are mixed and burned outside the block into the furnace.

A fuel injection system
Both metallic and refractory parts of the burner are cooled by the oxygen flow.The flame shape, luminosity and stability are controlled thanks to the distribution settings of the oxygen and fuel flow around and into the fuel injectors.
The flame covers the glass bath without local overheating. It also enables a fuel-efficiency increase of more than 5% compared to standard oxy-combustion technology.This design reduces NOx emissions by 3 to 5 times less than cylindrical flame burners, thanks to lower peak flame temperature.
